SSOW Initial Training Course

This course is designed to train those selected to produce Safe System of Work plans for staff required to work on the Network Rail Controlled Infrastructure.

Understand the process for planning Safe Systems of Work in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/019, Safety of People Working On or Near the Line. Access and extract information from various sources and using that information in the production of Safe System of Work Plans for use by staff required to work safely on the Network Rail Managed Infrastructure. Have a basic understanding of key Rail Rule Book modules and Handbooks associated with planning and implementing Safe Systems of Work.

  1. Minimum age of 18
  2. Meets the entry requirements of PTS competence
  3. Good level of literacy required
  4. Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card and meet the requirements of NR/L2/CTM/021 – Competence and Training in Track Safety.
  5. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements
  6. In addition the requirements of Network Rail Specification NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol) must be met.
  7. The Pre-COSS workbook needs to be completed and the Sponsor must register the completion of the Pre-COSS workbook with Sentinel
